Scientists have found that CBD acts as a kind of "switch" for receptor activity, allowing the effects of THC to be regulated. For example, if THC activates a receptor and causes euphoria, CBD can partially block or weaken this action, helping to avoid an excessive psychoactive effect. This effect may be useful for those who use cannabis for medical purposes but do not want to experience a pronounced change in consciousness.




New Horizons in Medical Cannabis Uses

Since August 16, 2024, the use of medical cannabis has been officially legalized in Ukraine . The law aims to expand patient access to treatment for chronic diseases, including cancer and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). According to estimates by the Ministry of Health of Ukraine, about 6 million citizens could benefit from medical cannabis. However, it can only be purchased with a doctor's prescription, and recreational use remains prohibited.

Ukrainian lawmakers are also considering adding PTSD to the list of medical conditions for which cannabis treatment is permitted. This is especially important for war veterans suffering from the after-effects of combat. In the coming years, training programs for doctors are planned to ensure proper prescription and monitoring of medical cannabis use.

This applies exclusively to medical cannabis with controlled THC and CBD content. Isolated forms of CBD are also completely legal and available, which are not subject to strict restrictions and can be used in a number of therapeutic cases.
